Update on supply of Ergocalciferol tablets 0.25mg and 1.25mg

23 Sep 2008

There are great difficulties in obtaining supplies of ergocalciferol tablets 0.25mg and 1.25mg. Concerns have been brought to the attention of the Medicines, Pharmacy and Industry Group, Department of Health by the Society’s Clinical Committee. The Department of Health explained that the manufacturers have not been able to supply the tablets for a year because of problems in sourcing the active ingredient. Alternative high strength vitamin D preparations such as Colecalciferol 20,000 IU capsules (Dekristol, through IDIS) are now available to pharmacies, although local procedures will have to be followed relating to prescribing these products.
