Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Acute General Medicine, Bristol

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to appoint an outstanding clinician and leader to join the Diabetes and Endocrinology (D&E) team as well as to contribute to both acute and ward based general medicine. The appointee will join a team of 11 consultants, 5 specialist nurses and 4 specialist registrars working in D&E with well established services in insulin pump therapy, antenatal endocrinology, pituitary disease, thyroid eye disease, adolescent endocrinology, a diabetes foot clinic as well as structured education programmes in diabetes and links to pancreas and islet transplantation. The consultant will be expected to participate in diabetes and endocrine clinics as well as taking a lead role in the diabetes foot clinic and helping to develop a metabolic medicine service. There is also scope within the specialty role to develop areas which may be of particular interest to the successful applicant. The general medicine component of the new post will include alternating ward based inpatient care (D&E and GIM ward) with associated GIM on-call and Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) sessions with an opportunity to optimise service delivery in MAU without overnight on-call duties.
