Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Alberta, Canada

05 Dec 2008

Via naturejobs.com. A postdoctoral position is available to study the mechanisms underlying insulin secretion from the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. The MacDonald lab undertakes a diverse array of cell biological studies to examine ion channel regulation, secretory vesicle trafficking and exocytosis, and intracellular signal transduction of insulin-secreting pancreatic beta-cells. We offer outstanding resources, both within our group and through the Alberta Diabetes Institute, that include several cellular imaging set-ups (TIRF microscopy, confocal microscopy, Ca2+ imaging), numerous patch-clamp rigs, and support that includes core facilities for islet isolation, transplantation, immunohistochemistry, FACS sorting, molecular biology and biochemistry. We invite applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas: islet hormone secretion; patch-clamp electrophysiology (ion channel function or capacitance); advanced cellular imaging (confocal, TIRF or Ca2+ imaging). Only qualified applicants will be contacted, and outstanding candidates may be supported in applications to local and national funding agencies.
