Applications are invited for two key positions to work within the Diabetes Research Laboratories (McCarthy and Gloyn groups) at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. The focus of the laboratory is on genetic and functional studies relevant to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and obesity: recent work has resulted in several major publications (in Nature, Science, Nature Genetics). The postholders will have responsibility for laboratory-based analyses including high-throughput genotyping, next-generation resequencing and expression profiling approaches and will interface with scientists, clinicians, informaticians and statistical personnel. We are looking for junior scientists who have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, experience of some of the laboratory techniques involved, strong communication skills and the potential to develop (postgraduate research training is encouraged). Experience of working in a high-throughput research environment would be desirable. Attention to detail and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. Funding is available (with immediate effect) for two years in the first instance with the possibility for further extension. These posts are supported by funding from the MRC, Wellcome Trust and European Commission and are offered on a grade 6 salary: £24,403 - £29,138 p.a.
