European research funding explained

The Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST) have published a new document outlining the European Commission's research funding programme, known as the 7th Framework Programme or FP7.

Within you will find information on the history and structure of FP7, the current and past involvement in the Programmes by UK academia and industry, and future considerations to be made by the UK in the next Programme (FP8), work towards which is currently taking place. Anyone seeking FP7 funding may find it helpful to familiarise oneself with the Programme throught this factsheet.

FP7 has been a major funder of UK research since it began in 2007, and will no doubt continue to be a significant contributor to science and technology in the UK until it ends in 2013, when it will be replaced by the next Programme.
