Androgens affect hair growth in different ways depending on the hair type. They are able to stimulate hair growth in many areas like the beard and axillary regions, while at the same time inhibiting growth on the scalp in the same people causing male pattern baldness (alopecia).

This project will involve a range of advanced techniques including cell and organ culture, immunohistology and a number of molecular biology methods to better understand the effect of androgen action in the hair follicle.
