Mercury causes homosexuality in male ibises (Nature News, 1 December 2010)

Findings published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B show that high levels of mercury exposure can affect the fertility of ibis populations. The researchers propose that this could be a behavioural effect of disruption of the endocrine system by mercury, resulting in more same-sex pairings in male ibises and more failed nests.
