Researchers from Lund University, Sweden, are commencing a trial to investigate the mechanisms by which gastric bypass surgery leads to a rapid normalisation of glucose homeostasis (i.e. recovery from diabetes). The team states that this cannot be down to weight loss alone, and will examine the role of gastrointestinal hormones in both pigs and humans.
