Three-parent IVF needs more research, review says (BBC News Online, 19 April 2011)

The HFEA has concluded that it will need to see more evidence on the safety and effectiveness of certain techniques designed to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial disease before it can authorise their use in humans as part of a clinical trial. Research advocates have called on the Government to draft legislation that legalises the techniques, so that clinical trials can commence as soon as the HFEA's scientific review authorises their use.
